Clinical overview
The AbsorbaTack™ device fixes prosthetic material — most commonly hernia mesh — to soft tissue during laparoscopic and open hernia repair. Instead of permanent metal, it deploys tacks made from an absorbable synthetic polyester copolymer derived from lactic and glycolic acid, which the body breaks down by hydrolysis after the mesh has become incorporated. Surgeons choose absorbable fixation when they want to avoid leaving permanent hardware in the abdominal wall. The 5 mm shaft passes through standard laparoscopic trocars; a long version serves laparoscopic techniques in 15- and 30-tack configurations, and a shorter version is offered for open repair in a 20-tack configuration. Each device is supplied sterile for single-procedure use. Tack selection and placement are at the surgeon's discretion based on defect size, mesh type, and anatomy.
